The head teacher of St. Raphael Secondary School –Kabira in Kyotera District was on Monday arrested on allegations of misusing Shs7M which was meant to buy chemical reagents used during practical examinations.
Mr. Denis Ssenteza Walusimbi was arrested after candidates waited for over 2 hours to seat for their first paper (Physics Paper 3). It was later learnt that the school had not catered for the chemical reagents to use during the paper.
However, it took the intervention of the school management committee to mobilize funds to buy materials for the students.
Musa Kayongo, the Rakai District Police Commander, says police was forced to pick up the school head teacher after failing to explain why he didn’t buy the materials in time yet he received money for the materials.
Mr Kayongo said police has swung into investigations and if the suspect is pinned, he will face fraud charges.
In his statement at police, the suspect claimed that he lent out part of the funds to some members of the school board whom he could not name but they delayed to refund the money.
Mathias Kigoye, the Kyotera District Education Officer -DEO has condemned the incident, saying it is ashaming that even a head of a government school can swindle exams fees.
