Head Teacher In Trouble For Embezzling UPE Funds

Mayuge: As corruption and embezzlement of public funds conquer Uganda’s public institutions, Mr. William Sande a head teacher of St. Francis Buluba, Day and boarding primary school in Buluba village, Mayuge district didn’t survive cameras after failing to account for funds he allegedly diverted to personal use.

Sande survived being strangled by angry parents who allegedly accuse him of diverting Universal Primary Education-UPE funds to personal benefit.

During a Saturday 24 August 2019 meeting chaired by the chairperson school management committee Gideon Ngobi, parents who had turned up to receive their children’s report cards wanted to know why pupils eat one meal a day yet UPE funds are meant to cater for school needs.

Ngobi said, the school is in high debt by food supplies who had gone months without getting a single penny thus urging Mayuge district local government to task Sande to account for how he used missing funds having failed to to answer well queries from the school management and angry parents.

They tasked Sande to either account for the alleged missing funds or resign from his office as soon as possible .

Some parents who attended the meeting blamed police for deploying heavily at school and also faulted the school authorities of locking out the pupils.

Elivaidha Namulondo one of parents said, school issues should be handled harmoniously and wonders why instead of dialogue between parents and administration, police was deployed.

But Sande blamed his woes on detractors who are instigating the parents.
“I requested the district police commander to provide us with security after the situation went rowdy, and I am reliably informed that my detractors are fuelling these protests,” he said.
