She added that; “National and Regional Referral Hospitals continue to receive their PPE from National Medical Stores along with other essential medicines.

The Ministry of Health has excluded the use of general hospitals and health centre IVs for treatment of COVID-19 cases. We are now in the process of expanding bed capacities at the National and regional referral hospitals using mobile hospitals in open spaces.

The government has to date procured PPE worth Shs20 billion. It has also engaged local industries to re-orient their services to manufacture PPE.”

Commenting about the discrepancies in the total number of COVID-19 cases and the contentious test results from Makerere University, the Minister said that; “The Makerere testing scandal was an isolated error. It does not affect the rest of our testing centres. The 9 cases have since been discounted from our number. This brings the total number of our #COVID__19 cases to 685.”

The Minister’s remarks however came a few hours after the Ministry had announced earlier that the number of COVID-19 cases had reached 694.

The Ministry of Health had earlier on tweeted that the total number of cases in Uganda is 694
