Health Ministry Intensifies Safety Guidelines As COVID-19 Cases Hit 160

The Ministry of Health has intensified efforts to urge all Ugandans to practice safety measures against the spread of COVID-19 which include wearing face masks, washing hands with soap and sanitizers frequently, staying home, maintaining social distance, avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth, plus informing concerned authorities about any suspected COVID-19 cases.

This comes after Uganda registered 21 new Coronavirus cases in one day on Thursday, which is the highest number of COVID-19 confirmed from 1,593 samples of truck drivers, bringing the number of cases to 160.

The new cases confirmed include: Ugandans, Kenyans, Tanzanians and South Sudanese who arrived via Mutukula, Busia and Elegu borders respectively.

Officials from the Ministry revealed however that of 1,896 samples taken on Thursday  to the Uganda Virus Institute (UVRI) and all 303 community samples tested negative for COVID-19.

Despite the increase in the number of cases,  the Health Ministry reveal that as a result of the concerted efforts of medical personnel and the National COVID-19 Taskforce,  Uganda has  registered 63 recoveries after another patient healed from COVID-19 at Masaka Regional Referral hospital and was discharged this week.

During her national address about COVID-19 on Thursday, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister for Health, revealed that Uganda has cases that include; Ugandans, Kenyans, Tanzanians, Burundians, Chinese, Canadian, Rwandese, Congolese, Eritreans, and an Indian .
