Heavy Rains Kill Two,Destroy Property In Buhweju

Buhweju: At least two people have passed on and over seven left with severe injuries in Buhweju District after a house they were living in collapsed following a heavy downpour.

The fateful incident happened shortly after a heavy storm that pounded the area for over three to four hours on Saturday September 14 2019. The rains further destroyed gardens and over 10 houses.

Banana Plantations were left down

According to Police, the deceased were identified as Junior Kahonaho and another only identified as Felix all residents of Kihane village in Rwanjere Sub County.

Residents, said, the downpour lasted for about three to four hours leaving a trail of destruction and mourning over the loss of their people.

Simon Tibekinga, a resident of Rushambya village said that several residents lost banana plantations, cassava gardens and houses were destroyed.

He also said that he lost his six pigs and the roof of his house was blown off and is now seeking shelter.

Martial Tumusiime the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident and said, police sent a rescue team to the area but it was too late to save two people who had been hit by a collapsing wall of the house where they lived.

He said, that the injured are receiving treatment at Kyabugimbi Health Centre IV.
