Former High Court judge Wilson Masalu Musene has died, according to a Judiciary announcement on Sunday.

The Judiciary in a short statement said that Musene died on Sunday evening in Mbale.

“Funeral arrangements (will) be announced later,” the message reads and adds that the body had been taken to the Mbale city mortuary.

The late Musene retired from judicial service in 2021 after clocking 65 years although the Constitution allowed him three more extra months to wind up any pending chamber work.

Judge Musene was among the four Ugandan legal officers whom the United States Government in August 2020 imposed financial sanctions and visa restrictions over the alleged involvement in activities that victimised young children in a corrupt adoption scheme.

The other three sanctioned alongside him included Justice Moses Mukiibi, Dorah Mirembe an advocate and her husband, Patrick Ecobu.

The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in its 2020 statement noted that the trio participated in a scam that saw young children removed from their families in Uganda and placed into a corrupt adoption network, aided by the facilitation of officials.
