Kampala: Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which one person was shot dead by a security guard attached to a private security company. Mugisha owner of Kololo-based Hickory Bar and Restaurant, was on a Tuesday 8 July morning shot dead at Quality Shopping village in Naalya.
According to reports, he was shot at around 10:30am by a security guard belonging to Saracen Uganda Ltd after scratching another car with a shopping trolley. The security guard on seeing a scratch, Confronted Mugisha and during a heated argument, the guard walked away, only to return with his gun, shooting Mugisha dead.
According to Luke Owoyesigire the Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson said, “the deceased and his two colleagues visited the supermarket for shopping. He remained in the car and after shopping, one of the three released a trolley which knocked one of the cars in the parking,” He said.
“Then in the process of reversing, the deceased knocked at the foot of a one askari Awaze Babu. This prompted an exchange of words between the two askaris and the three customers, Angoria rushed to the centry box where he picked his SAR gun and shoot the deseased at the mouth while he was on his steering in the car, ” he added.
After realizing that Mugisha had breathed his last, the security guard tried running away but was intercepted by a mob who beat him merely to death but saved by Police that rushed him to Mulago Hospital for treatment. Mugisha’s lifeless body is also at Mulago hospital pending post-mortems.
Hickory Bar and Restaurant management Kololo confirmed the death of their boss but could not explain how and why a humble man would be mobbed.
“Yes, he has been shot dead this morning. But we have not yet seen the body and we cannot explain the circumstances under which he was shot,” one of the managers at the facility told Nile Post on condition of anonymity.
Eyewitnesses claim that Mugisha was coming from the gym with his brother and they decided to buy some consumables at the supermarket.
