The High Court Civil Division in Kampala has directed that the applicants and respondents in the canceled ‘Kyarenga concerts’ case are to re-appear in court for oral submissions on December 13th, 2019 and final wrap up.
On May 5th, 2019 events promoters Abbey Musinguzi aka Abitex and Andrew Mukasa aka Bajjo Events challenged the Police decision of indefinitely banning them from organizing ‘Kyarenga extra concerts’ in which Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was the main performer.
However, today, the two, through their lawyer Elias Lukwago, returned to court to hear their application before Justice Lydia Mugambe.
But the judge fixed the said date for them to file their oral submissions and thereafter proceed with the case.
According to Lukwago, the concerts were to be held at One Love Beach Busaabala in Wakiso District, Lira, Gulu, and Arua and cost the applicants a lot of money exceeding Shs200m, which are losses they counted after police blocked Bobi Wine from performing.
He said that “As a result of the police directives stopping the concerts, my clients registered losses. So they are seeking compensation and also want court to quash the decision by police of permanently blocking their concerts or doing the same in future.”
However, the Attorney General’s representative in the case Josephine Kiigi objected to their application.
Abbitex and Bajjo now wait for the date of adjournment during which their lawyer will avail more evidence to back up their case.
