Kampala: The Anti-Corruption Court has today convicted and sentenced three officials of Hoima District on charges of Forgery after they forged executive commitee minutes alleging that they had been authorized to hire out road equipment to private individuals where as not
The officials who have been on trial since 2021 were arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit together with police after a complaint was received that the accused were allegedly hiring out District road equipment to private business man in Kiryandongo District.
The officials are; Vice chairperson Chiche Benson, Secretary for production Magambo Jackson and secretary for Finance Kumakech Geoffrey.
The accused were handed a sentence by Chief Magistrate her Worship Joan Achiro of a cash fine UGX5M each and will not serve Govt for the next 10 years.
The District Road construction equipment included a vibral roller and grader.
Working together with Police, the matter was investigated and the equipment was recovered and handed over to Ministry of Works.
It should be remembered that in 2017, H.E the President, Y.K Museveni commissioned road equipment to help districts construct their own roads.
The State House Anti Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) in one year, 2022, managed to recover Ugx35.484bn from corruption masters of this country, the annual report revealed.
The Unit also managed to arrest and arraign in court over 448 suspects. Among these, courts convicted 70 culprits including government accounting Officers, Executive Officers, managing directors, Secretaries of Commission, CAOs, and Town Clerks.
SH-ACU was established under Article 99(4) of the constitution of Uganda, which gives the President executive powers to either directly or indirectly perform his duties or through officers subordinate to him.
Launched on 10th December 2018, SH-ACU coordinates with all constitutionally mandated agencies to ensure a corruption-free country.
The Unit also acts as a link between H.E. the President, citizens, and Anti- Corruption agencies in relation to Anti-Corruption issues.
