IG Orders Immediate Interdiction Of Fort Portal City Town Clerk Otimong Over Abuse Of Authority

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Local Government (MoLG), Ben Kumumanya has been directed by the Inspectorate of Government (IG) to immediately interdict Fort Portal City Town Clerk, Moses Otimong-TheSpy Uganda has learnt.

In an interdiction letter issued against Otimong dated 27th October 2022, IG states that they received complaints about mismanagement of public resources, abuse of authority and office within Fort portal City which triggered them to institute investigations into the same.

”Preliminary investigations have established that there is a prima facie case against Moses Otimong, City Town Clerk, Fort portal City and that his continued stay in office, while investigations are ongoing, affects the progress of the investigations,” partially reads IG’s letter to Kumumanya.

Citing Article 230(2) of the Constitution and Section 14(6) of the Inspectorate of Government Act, IG states that it was fit to first kick Otimong out of office so as to have smooth investigations.

Article 230(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of UganÄ‘a and Section 14(6) of the Inspectorate of Government Act, 2002 provide that: ‘The Inspector General of Government may, during the course of his or her duties or as a consequence of his or her findings, make such orders and give such directions as are necessary and appropriate in the circumstances.’

IG’s Letter To PS MoLG Ben Kumumanya

IG states that public interest demands that while investigations into his conduct are ongoing, he should be interdicted from exercising the powers and functions of his office.

The Inspectorate, therefore, orders Kumumanya thus,” You are, therefore, hereby directed to immediately interdict the above-named official without any further delay.”
