Kampala: Two officials of the Judicial Service Commission were on Thursday arrested on orders of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) after failing to account for over Shs33m.
Justice Irene Mulyagonja, the IGG, caused the arrest of Dr. Rose Nassali Lukwago, the Secretary Judicial Service Commission and Dr. Opio Okiror, the former Commissioner Health Services.
The two are accused of alleged abuse of office and causing financial loss of Shs33m in the 2014/2015 financial year in their role as accounting officers in the Education and Sports Ministry.
They are wanted together with Jaffar Kawooya, the Internal Auditor in the Education Ministry.Â
The charge sheet prepared by Brenda Kibugwe indicates that the head of Prosecution in the IGG and that the suspected facilitated an overpayment of Shs33.8M to AH Consulting Ltd, well-knowing it would cause financial loss to government.
Following their arrest, the suspects are expected to appear before the Anti-corruption court anytime from now. This comes at a time when Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has just instituted a commission to investigate the massive corruption at the judicial service commission, which saw the permanent secretary Kagole Kivumbi sent on forced leave after failing to account for over Shs30Bn.
