Uganda’s President Rtd.Gen.Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has fired country’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen.Edward Kalekezi Kayihura commonly known as Kale Kayihura and replaced him with his junior police officer Okoth Ochola!
Also, fired is his former boss, security minister Lt.Gen.Henry Tumukunde. Tumukunde has been replaced by a senior and bush war hero Gen.Elly Tumwine as new security minister.
According to a statement signed by the President, dated 4th March, 2018 this evening, Mr. Ochola will be deputized by Brig. (downtownvictoria.ca) Sabiiti Muzeei as Assistant General of Police.
Gen.Kale Kayihura is so far the longest serving IGP to have led police having replaced Gen.Edward Katumba Wamala in 2005 up to today,4th March 2018, making 13 yrs at the helm of the police.
Before the president’s announcement dropping him as IGP, Kayihura had made several transfers and shake ups in police in the same early morning of the day. This could clearly mean that he didn’t know what would befall him later in the day. Though Kayihura is the longest serving IPG, his tenure has been marred with several security lapses including unexplained murders across the country, corruption and alleged crack down of opposition key members with ‘unreasonable force.
