Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) stalwart Doreen Nyanjura has ‘landed in things’ like Ugandans usually say, after being appointed the Deputy Kampala Lord Mayor.
Nyanjura, who is also the Local Council 5 (LCV) Woman Councilor, representing Makerere University, was appointed by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago on Thursday and her announcement was made by the lordmayor himself, during a press conference held at City Hall, Kampala today.
The youthful FDC lioness Nyanjura is replacing outgoing Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike, who was a few days ago appointed by President Yoweri Museveni as Director Gender Community Services and Production at KCCA.
Lukwago last week gave Ms Kanyike a three-day ultimatum after President Museveni nominated her for the said position. Lukwago had implored Ms Kanyike to reject the appointment. Ms Kanyike is, however, said to have tendered in her resignation Thursday morning.
“The outgoing deputy Lord Mayor, having been a minister for gender in my executive, Nyanjura also takes up the same position and becomes her immediate supervisor,” Lukwago said.
Kanyike is a Councilor representing Makindye East and was appointed by Lukwago in 2016 to deputise him after he dropped his then deputy Kidandala.
Other appointments included that of Dr Daniel Okello Ayen, who was confirmed as the director of public health and environment and Ms Grace Akullo, who was nominated as the new director of human resource and administration, replacing Mr Richard Lule, plus city lawyer Dorothy Kisaka who was appointed Executive Director at KCCA.
