Israel has struck a $500 million deal to supply Morocco with an air defense system.
The contract with Israel Aerospace follows the signing last November of a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation between the two countries.
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) will supply the Moroccan military with Barak MX air and missile defense systems as part of the deal.
Morocco requested the system and other equipment when Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz visited the country in November. During the visit, Gantz signed a memorandum of understanding with his Moroccan counterpart.
According to sources, IAI CEO Boaz Levy secretly visited Morocco and discussed the possibilities of the system, agreeing on the details of the deal.
