Iteso Swear Not To Vote For NRM If Chris Obore Is Not Reinstated

By Samuel Opio

The unfair treatment of Chris Obore Ariko in Parliament has taken a new twist with a group of youth and elders in Teso Sub-region now vowing not to support the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates in the 2021 elections if parliament fails to reinstate Obore back to his office.

Speaking during a presser on Tuesday by the youth under their umbrella Bukedea Unification, in Bukedea District, the group accused Teso Parliamentary Group (a body that unites Teso MPs in Parliament) of paying less attention to the issues affecting Teso and particularly Chris Obore’s case.

L-R: Diana Esele (System admin, Bukedea Unification), Alfred Okia (Public Relations Officer), Chris Omuron (Secrtary) Betty Ajilong (Legal Advisor), Emmanuel Okia (Member) and Jonathan Musoke (Chairperson)

The youth also warned that they will mobilize support for the Opposition against the ruling NRM party candidates if government pays a deaf ear to their plight.

“When we went to Parliament, we met the chairperson Teso Parliamentary Group Hon. Patrick Okabe, he went ahead and organized a meeting with his members but because of cowardness and fighting for favors in parliament, the group ignored our plea. We have decided to leave but warn them that next year’s elections are not far and they will come back to us pleading for votes, but since they have refused to help us, we shall not vote for them but instead we shall help the opposition. We want people who will finght for Teso but not the ones who go fighting for favors,” Chris Omuron, the Secretary Bukedea Unification said.

Another member, Kenneth Akongel said that should parliament fail to honor their petition, thy are ready to hit the streets (demonstration).

“Should parliament fail to honor our petition; we are hitting the streets to demobilize NRM!” Akongel said.

Majority of the elected leaders in the ten districts of Teso sub-region belong to the NRM party. The locals say this has left them helpless, since their leaders cannot defend them.

The same NRM Mps and NRM leaning MPs have been accused of fighting their own.

Bukedea Unifications is an organization of youth from all parties in Teso based in Bukedea

The group came together after the 2016 general elections to heal the political wounds and participate in building Teso that has productive politics to avoid divisiveness and pettiness.
