It’s War at New Hope as Ownership Battle Escalates

By Andrew Irumba

The ongoing ownership dispute at New Hope Uganda, a charity organization that emerged after the 1986 liberation war, continues to escalate. Recent developments reveal a fresh twist as one of the parties, represented by a lawyer for Mr. Danger, has submitted an application seeking court intervention to facilitate changes to the organization’s board.

According to the application, the lawyer is petitioning the court, the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, and the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) to endorse his proposal for board member alterations. This move, if granted, could potentially give Mr. Danger the leverage to oust key figures, including Mr. Jonnes, from the leadership structure.

Sources close to the matter suggest that this development is part of a broader strategy to consolidate power within the organization. Critics, however, have expressed concerns about the potential impact of these wrangles on the charity’s operations and its commitment to serving vulnerable communities, especially in Luwero, where its roots are deeply entrenched.

The conflict has drawn significant attention from stakeholders and the public, many of whom question the motives behind the ownership battle. Observers note that the ongoing disputes risk overshadowing the organization’s core mission and jeopardize its credibility.

Efforts to reach representatives from both camps for comments were unsuccessful by press time. However, insiders hint at heightened tensions as court hearings loom.

Background

New Hope Uganda was established to provide relief and support to war-affected communities following the 1986 liberation war. Over the years, the organization has gained recognition for its efforts in education, child care, and community development. Despite its commendable achievements, internal disputes have raised concerns about governance and transparency.

As the legal battle unfolds, all eyes will be on the court’s decision, which could have far-reaching implications for the future of New Hope Uganda. Meanwhile, stakeholders and well-wishers hope that the organization can overcome its internal challenges and refocus on its mission to uplift lives.
