March 2025 – Kampala: The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) finally secured its first-ever Chief Executive Officer. Joseph Beyanga, widely known as Joe Walker, was officially unveiled as CEO during the first extraordinary joint meeting between the NAB Executive Committee (EXCO) and the Board of Trustees on Tuesday which took place at Forest Cottages,Naguru.

Beyanga’s appointment follows a recent amendment to the NAB constitution, passed at the previous General Meeting, which created the CEO position. His mandate will include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the NAB Secretariat, reporting directly to NAB Chairman Dr. Innocent Nahabwe, mobilizing funds, and coordinating with key industry stakeholders.

A Familiar Face at NAB

For those familiar with Uganda’s media landscape, Beyanga is no stranger to NAB. Before his new role, he served as the association’s General Secretary, where he played a pivotal role in shaping policies and fostering industry collaboration. His deep understanding of the media sector and NAB’s mission makes him well-positioned to steer the association forward.

An Illustrious Career at Nation Media Group (NMG)

Beyanga’s expertise in broadcasting and media management was honed during his tenure at Nation Media Group (NMG), one of East Africa’s largest media houses. At NMG, he held key editorial and leadership positions, contributing significantly to the organization’s growth and influence in Uganda’s media sector. His insights into newsroom operations, content strategy, and media ethics set him apart as a respected figure in journalism.

Beyond Media: The Road Safety Advocate

In a bold move, Beyanga stepped away from mainstream media in 2024 to dedicate himself to road safety activism. Under the Joe Walker initiative, he embarked on awareness campaigns aimed at reducing road accidents, advocating for better road policies, and urging responsible driving among Ugandans. His activism resonated widely, earning him a reputation as a passionate and dedicated advocate for safer roads.

The Task Ahead

As CEO of NAB, Beyanga is expected to leverage his wealth of experience in media management, industry advocacy, and stakeholder engagement to elevate the association’s role. His leadership comes at a crucial time when Uganda’s broadcasting sector faces regulatory shifts, digital transformation challenges, and financial sustainability concerns.

With his track record of leadership, strategic thinking, and advocacy, industry players are optimistic that Joe Walker will walk NAB into a new era of growth and influence. Welcome Joe, hope this time you start taking your lunch as opposed to walking with it🤣🤣🏃🏃
