Entebbe: His majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has appealed to Baganda and all Ugandans to engage in growing of coffee and cotton as a way of fighting poverty.
While speaking at the celebration of his 26th Coronation held at Nkumba University, Entebbe, Kabaka Mutebi noted that coffee growing can help farmers to form cooperatives that can help them to be united and fight poverty among themselves.
He also noted that reinstating cooperatives doesn’t necessarily call for government supports but members of the cooperatives themselves.
The special guest at the coronation was the Sultan of Sokoto Nigeria Mohammed Abubaker Saadi III, who congratulated  Kabaka Mutebi upon the 26 years on the throne. Sultan Mohammed also appealed to leaders at various levels to prioritise better service delivery for their people.
The president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, through his vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, handed over Shs50m to the Kabaka to buy cows as his gift on this coronation. Museveni also  applauded his majesty for mobilising the people in Buganda to engage in activities that improve their standards of living such as farming among others .
The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga revealed that in this 21 Century cultural norms and heritage should be used to bring development in Buganda kingdom.
Other notable guests who attended the celebrations included ministers from Buganda kingdom, ministers from the central government, several legislators, religious leaders among others.
