After CEC dumped her for flamboyant Jacob Oulanyah and left with no option, the Kamuli woman MP Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has finally settled for an independent ticket in the 11th speakership race!
TheSpy Uganda reporter strategically placed at Hotel Africana this evening reported that Kadaga actually couldn’t wait for the final ‘whistle’ at Statehouse Entebbe before she jumped unto her V8 en route to Hotel Africana Kampala to address the press on her next move. “Although we waited for over 1 and a half hours for her to address us, when she arrived, her address only took less than 5minutes, no questions, no nothing!” said our reporter.
Kadaga said three things; that she’s coming as independent, that NRM CEC members have been fighting her for a long time because she has been unapologetically addressing poor people’s concerns and finally, that women are being sidelined on the national cake yet the constitution dictates for equal share on the same. Kadaga said she will be more vocal on those lines in her next term as MP and speaker if she wins tomorrow. We now wait to see if she will manoeuvre the now murky waters tomorrow in the general elections at Kololo where she will face her closest rival Oulanya, FDC’s Ssemujju Nganda among others.
While commenting on the happenings in NRM, FDC’s Nganda said he was more hopeful now that NRM is clearly divided between Kadaga and Oulanyah. “When they divide their votes into two, that is good for us because we can now raise the requires numbers in opposition, and I know we have some sober NRM members who support our cause too,” he said.
