Kagame Mourns Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza, Flies Rwandan Flag At Half-mast

Kigali: The republic of Rwanda is flying the Rwandan flag at half-mast starting Saturday June 13, 2020 until fallen Burundian president Pierre Nkurunziza is buried.

This follows a declaration by President Paul Kagame to all Rwandans to observe national mourning for President Nkurunziza.

The former Burundian leader died on Wednesday and although some sources say his death was due to cardiac arrest, others contend he died of Coronavirus.

However, being a neighbouring country, Rwanda president Paul Kagame has decided to accord his once good comrade Nkurunza respect, until the day he will be laid to rest.

The directive for national mourning is enshrined in a communique from the government of Rwanda dated June 13, 2020 and orders all flags to fly at half-mast.

However, it should be noted that at the time of Nkurunziza’s death he was not on good terms with Kagame, because both presidents accused each other of attempts to destabilize each other’s governments.
