Kampala:The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), a government revenue collection agency established for enforcing, assessing, collecting, and accounting for the various Gov’t taxes has officially appointed Abel Kagumire as the new commissioner of Customs following Dickson Kateshumbwa’s resignation in May this year.
The newly appointed commissioner, Kagumire previously served as Assistant Commissioner Customs Audit and Manager Customs at URA for more than 17 years.
According to the Memorandum seen by TheSpy Uganda from the authority, URA Board of Directors Board held a special meeting on 26th August, 2020 where Kagumire was among candidates interviewed for the vacant Senior Management positions in the Departments of Customs, Corporate Services and Domestic Taxes.
Kagumire is described as “Patriotic, Passionate about Trade Facilitation, Service with Integrity & Capacity Building.”
Other candidates who were approved include Commissioner Corporate Services Richard Kariisa and John Tinka Katungwensi-Assistant Commissioner large taxpayers’ office.
All newly appointed commissioners take offices effective 1st September, 2020.
