Kasese Parliamentary Caucus Demand Release Of Omusinga Mumbere

Kampala: Members of Parliament have today demanded the immediate release of Omusinga Was Rwenzururu kingdom Charles Wesley  Mumbere from house arrest.

The legislators under the Kasese Parliamentary Caucus made the demands today at Parliament and were led by their chairperson Hon Winnie Kizza Nyabahasa the Kasese municipality Member of Parliament.

The Caucus was discussing among other matters the three years since Rwenzururu palace attack, several people were killed and hundreds dumped in jails around the country.


Following the raid of the kingdom,Omusinga Mumbere and his royal guards were arrested during a joint military raid on his palace in 2016 and he was incarcerated at his home in Muyenga, although he has since been granted bail by the high court in Jinja, with restricted movements not beyond Kampala and Wakiso.

He is battling several charges of terrorism, murder and aggravated robbery among others that were slapped against him and 200 royal guards in 2016.


Kizza said that “We Demand  that the  king of Rwenzururu be released from the house arrest and the 200 prisoners be released.” 

Mumbere avers that on January 13, 2017, he was released on bail by Justice Eva Luswata, who among others barred him from accessing his kingdom and  restricted his movements within Kampala, Wakiso and Jinja districts.
