Former Uganda Cranes star, Hassan Mubiru, who is currently the head coach of the Kampala Region League (KRL) side, Katwe United FC, has revealed that his team is strong and remain focused on finishing top of the KRL as well as winning the Uganda Cup.
He was speaking after the morning training at Katwe Playgrounds on Friday.
He said that his team is strong enough and ready to defend their title, thus laughing at rival teams which had started scoffing at them following a 2-1 loss against Black Star FC in the league last week.
“I actually pity whoever thinks that Katwe can slip off the title. We on a daily basis work towards achieving our set target of being crowned Champions of the league,” he said
“Drawing or even losing to other teams is normal in football, but it doesn’t mean the team has descended to being weak, no,” he added.
On Uganda Cup, Mr Mubiru said that it is one of the assignments given to him by the club management in August when employing him, saying given the existing preparations and facilitation, Katwe will have to bag it as well.
They were last week drawn against Namasuba Juventus in the preliminary round of the Uganda Cup and will face off on Wednesday December 12.
Katwe United owned by Makindye West MP, Allan Ssewawanya have out of the 10 games played in the KRL so far, won 6, drawn thrice and lost once thus collecting 21 points.
The ‘Tulibanyiivu’ side will this weekend travel to Nabweru to play against St Mary’s FC in the 11th league match.
Katwe United are last season’s Champions but narrowly missed qualifying for the FUFA Big league after losing in the promotional play offs to Kiboga United.
They won 1-0 in the first leg away in Kiboga but lost 2-1 at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo in the return leg
