“It’s often said, ‘A dog biting a man isn’t news, but a man biting a dog is.’ Sensational stories often dominate headlines, but at Next Media, we have been on a mission to rewrite this narrative,” said Derrick Begumisa, the Head of Corporate Affairs at Next Media Services, as he reflected on the company’s ongoing push to change the way media reports the news.
In a move that further solidified Next Media’s commitment to transforming the landscape of Ugandan journalism, the company hosted Dr. Stephanie Urchick, President of Rotary International for 2024-2025, at their Next Media Park headquarters on Monday. The visit was an important moment for the media house, marking a significant milestone in its relationship with the Rotary movement and its shared goal of uplifting communities.
Dr. Urchick’s visit was seen as a powerful affirmation of the work Next Media has been doing to highlight the efforts of various organizations, particularly the Rotary Clubs that are tirelessly working to bring positive change across Uganda.
“Her presence was much more than a ceremonial visit. It was a recognition of the trust placed in us to amplify impactful stories, ones that truly matter,” Begumisa continued, emphasizing that Next Media has been at the forefront of telling transformational stories that inspire action and progress.
Dr. Urchick, during her visit, acknowledged the important role of media in shaping public perception and encouraging community-driven initiatives. “The media has a pivotal role to play in how stories of impact and change are shared. Next Media’s ability to amplify the voices of those making a difference aligns perfectly with Rotary’s mission to create lasting change,” Dr. Urchick remarked.
As Rotary’s historic week in Uganda unfolds, Next Media is playing a central role in ensuring the major events are broadcast live on NBS Live, with coverage also available through the Afro Mobile app. This partnership aims to bring the incredible stories of Rotary’s work to a broader audience, making it easier for viewers to stay connected to the movement’s transformative efforts.
“We are proud to partner with Rotary in this way,” said Begumisa. “Broadcasting these events live and giving our viewers access to such meaningful stories is exactly what we stand for—empowering communities by showcasing the real work being done to change lives.”
With Rotary’s ongoing commitment to service and change, Next Media remains dedicated to telling the stories that matter. This partnership between the media house and Rotary International promises to continue to uplift, inspire, and inform the public, ensuring that the stories of transformation receive the attention they deserve.
As Dr. Urchick’s visit marked an important chapter in the relationship between the two organizations, it also underscored Next Media’s determination to keep rewriting the narrative around what makes news—focusing on progress, hope, and the transformative power of collaboration.
