Kitunga Cranes Football club, an alumni club were crowned champions of the Kabira Club Corporate Football Tournament 2019 in a hotly contested competition held at Kabira Country Club, Bukoto on Sunday 31.
The no-nonsense Kitunga boys thumped resilient Magogo’s FUFA FM on penalties after playing out a 1-all draw in normal time.
The tournament attracted 20 corporate company teams including debutants The Pan African Pyramid Football club (PAP FC).
The twenty teams that participated in this year’s second edition of this tournament included; Kabira country club (the organizers), Harsh security A and B, Kitunga Alumni, YALI Uganda, premier Advertising, Pan African Pyramid FC (PAP FC), Hisense, Top Bloggers Uganda, Dream chasers, Pink Tie, Marcos The Legends, Speak Hotel, Bishops FC, Team A, Kings way, MLS FC, FUFA FM, Pro Zone and Falcon FC.
Each team played four games in the group stages before two top teams from each table advanced to the quarter finals.
PAP was dropped at group stages after failure to score any goal, though they never conceded any goal in all the four games played.
“Our boys did a wonderful job, because we never conceived any goal in all the four games. We’re out only on technicalities. But also…..you know as a Pan-African Organization, this xenophobia in South Africa has equally taken much of our attention and lost quite some concentration on the game!,” Andrew Irumba, the founding speaker and Chairman of the Organization said when asked as to why they lost.
Kitunga bagged one million cash as the winners; FUFA FM secured shs.500, 000 as the second best team while the third team squeezed shs.350,000.
This tournament was aimed at promoting football, nurture talents, promote physical fitness as well as establishing good networking among the corporate companies.
