The monarch of Busoga Kingdom Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV is celebrating his 31st birthday today November 1, 2019.
Kyabazinga Gabula, who has been reigning since 2014, was born on November 1, 1988. As part of the celebrations, the king will hold a private dinner at his palace in Jinja to mark this important day in his life.
However, while the Basoga are celebrating the Kyabazinga’s birthday, many elders are wondering when the king will finally unveil a queen and survive the biting cold nights.
This is because there are many potential brides ready to become part of the Busoga kingdom royal family but for reasons most known to the Kyabazinga, he has chosen to remain solo for several years now, yet his subjects are eagerly waiting for princes and princesses from him.
it should be noted that he was a few years ago linked to socialite Hildah Sheebah Natwijuka Zaribwende, although whatever they had going on between didn’t go well, after she reportedly failed to appeal to most Basoga as a viable queen for their kingdom.
Gabula is the son of Wilson Gabula Nadiope II, onetime minister of tourism in the Ugandan Cabinet, who died in 1991, and Josephine Nadiope, who died in 1993. His paternal grandfather is William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Nadiope III, who ruled as Kyabazinga from 1949 until 1955 and from 1962 until 1966.
Nadiope III was also the first vice president of Uganda, from 1962 until 1966. Gabula Nadiope was unanimously elected by the ten Busoga Royal Chiefs who convened at Bugembe on August 23, 2014 for the purpose of electing a new Kyabazinga. Prince Edward Columbus Wambuzi, the eleventh Busoga Royal Chief, who was also contesting for the throne, did not attend the meeting.
Gabula was unanimously approved by the Busoga Lukiko (Parliament) on 25 September 2014. Following an unsuccessful last-minute court challenge, Prince William Gabula was crowned as the 4th Kyabazinga of Busoga at Bugembe on Saturday, 13 September 2014. President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda attended the coronation.
