Sheema: David Kamukama, a lawyer with Gabriel Byamugisha & Co. Advocates, who also doubles as the Chief Executive Officer Bikwatse Kamukama Foundation, has no kind words for Minister Elioda Tumwesigye, whom he blames for not doing enough to ensure that people in Sheema district share part of the National Cake.
Kamukama, who is also the proprietor of Guard Force Security and Investigations Services, a private security company, revealed on Tuesday to TheSpy Uganda that some political leaders in Sheema municipality are so selfish and have concentrated on individual projects instead of service delivery for their voters.
Kamukama said that “Although I had expected much from the area Member of Parliament, who also doubles as Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Dr Elioda Tumwesigye Katsyamutwe, I later got disappointed and devastated after seeing no progress when it came to service delivery in Sheema municipality.
He added that; “I thought having a Minister as our area MP was a miraculous opportunity for us to get services like health care, job creation, infrastructure among others since ministers can easily access the powers that distribute the national cake. But unfortunately the only government project we have in Sheema are prisons which were built in Nyakashambya.”
Kamukama also said that “When things went astray, we teamed up, pooled some funds and bought a theatre operation table, Oxygen Monitor and other equipment for Kabwohe Health Centre IV. But on the day of installation, we discovered that the hospital didn’t have electric bulbs in most of the wards, there were no mosquito nets in maternity wards and the toilets are in a sorry state yet we have a Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology living within our midst.”
He further explained that political leaders should aim at delivering services to public instead of using their positions to develop individual projects through which in cases they end up milking money from the poor voters instead of the other way round.
He cautioned voters that if they don’t stop voting basing on religious affiliations, friendship, tribes or money, they will remain slaves of their leaders. He thus urged them to consider someone’s determination and potential to achieve service delivery before voting him or her into any political office.
It should be noted that in the entire Sheema municipality, the only renowned health facility that provides standard medical services is Minister Tumwesigye’s Bushenyi Medical Centre Kabwohe (BMC).
Tumwesigye’s BMC is the only medical facility in Sheema Municipality where people can get health services that they can’t at all the government Health Centres in the area; however, it is only people who can afford that can have access to very expensive medical services.
