Kampala: Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has been commended by city lawyers after exposing the rotten deals of the Bank of Uganda (BoU) in a multibillion fraud scandal.
After years of endless battle in various courts of law in Uganda, the Bank of Uganda this week gave up against Sudhir whom they had sued for allegedly fleecing Crane Bank Limited (CBL) of Shs397 billion which the Central bank wanted to be refunded.
The above was revealed via a letter seen by this website confirming that BoU decided to withdraw an appeal they had filed on June 23rd, 2020 contesting Justice David Wangutusi’s 2019 ruling, in which he declared that BoU illegally wound up Crane Bank and sold it to DFCU bank under dubious circumstances. Because of this, court ordered BoU to cough billions to Sudhir for wasting his time in baseless battles.
It is against this background that prominent city lawyer, Isaac K. Ssemakadde of Legal Brains Trust commended Dr.Sudhir Ruparelia for bringing the ‘untouchable’ BoU mafias on their knees.
Ssemakadde Commends Sudhir
”Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, congratulations on your historic, hard-fought and well-deserved Supreme Court victory against the Bank of Uganda.
When no one dared to hold the shambolic and near-defunct Central Bank and its corrupt and crooked lawyers to account, you risked all by bringing to them “the mother of all battles'”
Congratulations @sudhirruparelia: this milestone cements your legacy as The Last Indigenous Banker, The Doyen of African Finance, Defender of the Rule of Law, Paragon of Patriotism, and Spearhead of Accountability. @rajivruparelia, @KAAdvocates pic.twitter.com/wBmA7xR4bm

You withstood insult and innuendo, you ignored naysayers and doomsday prophets, and you focused on the basic principles of law – and you have been vindicated.
This victory is not just yours. It is a landmark David v Goliath precedent, and an emphatic call to action, for all the down-trodden and citizens of goodwill, to muster courage and strike massive blows against all bullies in their respective spaces, in accordance with the law.
This cements your legacy as The Last Indigenous Banker, The Doyen of African Finance, Defender of the Rule of Law, Paragon of Patriotism, and Spearhead of Accountability.
We also congratulate your son Rajiv Ruparelia for effectively coordinating this mighty pushback effort, and thank you for entrusting him with such an important task.
Your family and your businesses did not need this battle; you shouldered this burden for Uganda, and especially the meek and less fortunate, for whom the protection of the law had become a myth.
Lastly, we congratulate your heavyweight legal team at Kampala Associated Advocates overseen by Senior Counsel Peter Kabatsi for articulating the case from the High Court to the Supreme Court, with sublime adroitness and dexterity.
No one is above the law, not even the Bank of Uganda or its Governor. What a refreshing reminder!”
