Kampala:The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has agreed to meet executive members of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), such that they can iron out the current impasse threatening the media fraternity in Uganda.
The invitation for the meeting is enshrined in a letter written by the UCC Executive Director Eng.Godfrey Mutabazi, wherein the Commission invites members of NAB for a meeting scheduled for next week May 7th, 2019 at UCC HQ in Bugolobi. Mutabazi’s letter reads in part thus;
“Reference is made to the above captioned subject and your letter dated 2nd May 2019 in which you requested for a meeting with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).
The Commission agrees to meet the executive members of NAB and hereby invites you for the meeting on Tuesday, 7th May 2019 at 10:00AM at UCC House Bugolobi”.
The letter, which is signed by Mutabazi, is in response to an earlier letter that NAB wrote to UCC, requesting for a meeting between NAB and the Commission. In their letter, NAB was protesting UCC’s directives to 13 media houses to suspend 39 news editors, journalists and managers, for allegedly breaching the minimum broadcasting standards. NAB Chairman Kin Kariisa reasoned that the matter can be sorted out after dialogue between UCC and the affected media practitioners.
