Kampala District NRM Chairperson Godfrey Nyakana Amooti is contemplating standing as mayor for Kampala City to unseat current Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, TheSpy Uganda reports.
Nyakana made the revelation on Tuesday morning while appearing on NBS TV “morning breeze” programme to discuss “NRM Cash Bonanza and Museveni’s Repositioning”.
The former Kampala central division mayor said they [NRM] had young people who had their motives and listened to them in press conferences.
“If you do not give them platform to talk, it can escalate into something big later,” he warned.
He said the ruling party has all the capacity to take over Kampala.
“I am also contemplating standing as a leader probably mayor of Kampala because there are many things not being done,” he said.
The mayoral seat is currently occupied by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, a Dp member who defeated the NRM candidates time and again to retain his seat at City Hall.
Nyakana who is poised to unseat Lukwago said he does not think cash is very vital in the politics of Uganda but interpersonal relationship with people is the most important.
