Four Police officers were on Saturday March 11, 2020, arrested by the Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema’s State House Anti- Corruption Unit over allegations that they were shielding Indian investor Abid Alam as he committed murder, illegal evictions and other heinous crimes against people in Kassanda district.
According to a statement released by Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema, the senior police officers are currently in custody, as their respective cases are being investigated by detectives at the Kibuli based Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Directorate.
The statement reads in part thus;As you many recall, on Thursday 9th, 2020, Mr Abid Alan, the Managing Director of Alam Group of Companies, was arrested following complaints received through SH-ACU helplines.
The Unit, working with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, immediately commenced investigations into the allegations and the allegations include;Aggravated Torture, Gang Rape and malicious damage to properties, among others.
In addition to the above allegations, we also received integrity concerns and mismanagement of case files, conspiracy to defeat justice and professional misconduct against the Selected police officers.
I consulted with the Inspector General of Police who directed for the arrest of these officers.
The officers are;
1.Regional CID Officer Wamala, SP Wanyama Wilbert Ostin.
2.DPC Kasanda, ASP Owellano Daniel
3.OC CID Kasanda, ASP Beitera Peter
4.In-Charge Records, Wamala, Sgt. Azale.
TheSpy Uganda this week reported that Abid Alam had been arrested by police in Kassanda district on directives from Col. Nakalema, after he was accused by locals of Bukoba, Nalutuntu and villages in Kassanda district, of ordering his employees to destroy their farms, gang rape their wives and knock down their houses in a bid to evict them from their land.
However, our Spies reveal that Col. Nakalema almost burst with anger on Friday, after seeing pictures of a supposedly arrested Abid Alam, chopping money in Kampala with UPDF Lt. Col. Juma Seiko.
Abid Alam and Lt. Col. Seiko were smoked out on Friday afternoon at Forest Mall in Bugolobi, Kampala, flossing and glossing over media reports that he has been arrested.
Lt. Col. Nakalema wondered how a man she had ordered to be arrested on Thursday would be in Kampala on Friday enjoying Cappuccino with a UPDF officer and for that sake Juma Seiko?
Spies reveal that it was after receiving intelligence that senior police officers in Kampala have all along been colluding with Abid Alam and giving his goons protection whenever they commit crimes against the locals of Bukoba and Nalutuntu villages.
It should be noted that Abid Alam has for several years been involved in land wrangles in Mityana and Kassanda districts.
He came under the spotlight because of his alleged forceful eviction of more than 700 families from seven square miles of land in Nalutuntu Sub-County, in Mubende District a few years ago.
Abid Alam later got involved in another row with residents over a 12 square-mile land in the same area.
He was accused of atrocities including arbitrary arrests, torture and detentions of occupants over a five square mile land which has Bukoba, Kika, Kakungube and Bukompe villages in Nalutuntu Sub-County, Kassanda South in which was then Mubende District.
However, Abid Alam commits all these atrocities with impunity, since he is said to have the backup of the area Resident District Commissioner, NRM District Chairman Hussein Kavuma, District Police Commanders (DPCs) and District Internal Security Officers(DISOs), who often accompany him or provide security to his rapist employees.
Some of the complainants, among them Kassanda South Member of Parliament, Simeo Nsubuga, allege that Abid Alam operates illegal detention centres where many victims are often held incommunicado and tortured.
Although Abid Alam was a few years ago arrested on the orders of the Commission of Inquiry into Land Matters headed by Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, he was later released on bond and since then he has resumed his mass evictions and torture of helpless Ugandans.
But despite the atrocities Abid Alam and his ruthless hooligans have committed unto Ugandans, they are often released whenever the police in the area arrests them because of allegedly wetting the beaks of security officials.
