Veteran
rally driver Ponsiano Lwakataka has revealed that he has an axe to grind with
new champion driver Rajiv Ruparelia, who won Round One of the Mbarara Rally
early this year.
Lwakataka, who has spent a long time without winning any motor rally championship, has vowed that this weekend’s Jinja Rally will determine who is who in motorsport and end the unfinished business he has with Rajiv from the Mbarara rally.
Lwakataka,
just like Rajiv, opted out of the rally after their vehicles developed
mechanical faults, although the latter was ahead of the former.
“What
happened in Mbarara was so unfortunate to us. We had almost caught up on our
rival before we retired,” Lwakataka said.
He
added that “It was an interesting fight with Rajiv. We kept sharing stages till
we all dropped out. I was not ready to make it easy for him.
He
also said that “I still have unfinished business with Rajiv. Our competition
was not solved in Mbarara since we both dropped out in the final stages. (https://slidesbase.com) ”
He
continued that “Jinja will bring an end to what started in Mbarara. It was an
exciting battle and I hope it will be the same in Jinja,” he asserted.
Lwakataka
revealed that “I need maximum points to open up my fight for the title. I still
have a dream to win a third title and this could be the year.
My
sponsors Mafumafu Rally Team, SMK tyres, Saka water and Rosefoam have equipped
me well for the event. Now it’s my turn to do the job.”
Lwakataka will have Paul Musaazi as navigator in the Subaru Impreza N12, while Rajiv will be driving his monster Volkswagen Polo.
