Kampala: A yet to be identified man collapsed at the High Court in Kampala on Friday after a judge ordered that over 100 families are to be evicted by businessman Medard Kiconco from disputed land in Lusanja, Wakiso district.

The man who fainted was one of the affected residents who were dragged to court by Kiconco over claims that he had compensated them but they refused to vacate his land.

However, today High Court Judge Tadeo Asiimwe ruled that Kiconco is the rightful owner of the land in Senkanyonyi -Mpererwe zone.

According to the judgment read by the Court’s Registrar Sylvia Nabaggala, Justice Asiimwe also observed that people bought the bibanja from a wrong person – a one Chrispa Bitara-beho instead of the administrator Paul Katabazi Bitara-beho.

He added that the residents bought the land from Wakiso not Sekanyonyi Mpererwe in Kampala as they allege.

In December last year, Kiconco dragged 17 people to Court stating that they were squatters whom he had compensated to vacate the land.

They are Patrick Opedo, Harriet Nabuso, Samuel Muyanja, Agnes Namukasa, Madinah Nansereko, Christopher Mbogo, Christine Kayesu, John Ntale, Fred Kanyike, Sam Sserunjobi, Mary Nankabirwa, John Kilabira, Kenneth Kizito, Bashir Kalema, Martin Ntale, Kabuye Ssekitoleko and Scovia Nyanzi.

The residents were jointly sued with the lands state minister Persis Namuganza and Rosemary Sseninde, the state minister for primary education.
