Masaka: After police’s disciplinary standby court lastweek dismissed two police officers who were accused of extortion, four other senior police officers in the region have been summoned to the Police Professional Standards Unit (PPSU) to explain the recent scandal that led to the death of a boda-boda rider by setting himself on fire.
The court chaired by ASP David Manzi last week dismissed Sgt Julius Ewalu,a traffic officer and Sgt Ibrahim Ssesanga who was acting officer in charge of traffic at Masaka Central Police Station on charges of corruption and scandalous behaviour leading to the death of a person.
Four other officers summoned include Masaka District Police Commander, Mr Bosco Bakasahaba, Masaka Regional Criminal Investigations Officer, Elias Bayiruka, Owen Nahabwe, who is in charge of operations in the region and the Officer in Charge of Nyendo Police, David Kanakulya.
During a Sunday meeting at Masaka Central Police Station, after summons, Mr Bakashaba handed over office to the officer in charge of Masaka Police Station, Majidu Wepukulu.
Masaka Regional Police Spokesman, Muhammad Nsubuga said they are waiting for their bosses in Kampala to deploy other officers to replace Bayiruka, Nahabwe and Kanakulya who are now being investigated.
