President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated his directive to all Ugandans to put on face masks whenever they are going to public places, as a way of fighting the spread against Coronavirus (COVID-19).
In a statement he shared on twitter and other social media platforms on Monday, President Museveni cautioned Ugandans thus; “In addition to washing hands [with soap], using sanitiser and keeping social distance, it is important that you wear masks when in public. Together we will defeat #COVID19.”
The President continued to state that;
“Don’t just make them hang around your neck. Put the mask over your mouth and nose all the time as long as you are in public. Even when you are speaking, leave the mask on because if you remove it, you are infecting or getting infection from the air and also the hands you are fidgeting with while removing the mask can bring infection.”
However, Museveni’s message comes at a time when many Ugandans both in rural and urban centers are crying out to provide them with masks because they cannot afford buying them and several have since started improvising.
Meanwhile, information coming in from the Ministry of Health indicates that Uganda currently has 122 registered cases of COVID-19.
Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng on May, 11, 2020 confirmed one new CCOVID-19 case in Uganda out of 2,296 samples from truck drivers.
The new case is a Ugandan truck driver who arrived from Juba via Elegu border point. He brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 122 in Uganda.
However, the Minister revealed that all the 558 community samples tested negative for COVID-19 out of 2,854 total samples
The total number of recovered cases in the country stands at 55 and the country has not registered any single death since the outbreak of this Pandemic.
