Kampala: The Metropolitan International University (MIU) has officially received approval for its Charter application after meeting all the stringent requirements set forth by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
This significant milestone was reached during the Council’s 75th session convened on April 19, 2024. The Council duly deliberated on MIU’s application and resolved to endorse the granting of a Charter to the institution, as per the provisions outlined in Section 101(3) b of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 (as amended).
”As you may be aware, the law provides for requisite procedures governing grant of a Charter, which involves the submission of the Charter to the Minister responsible for Education who then presents it to the President for final approval, before gazettement of the same.” National Council said in a letter.
Consequently, MIU was required to make a payment of statutory fees totalling UGX 15,000,000 only (equivalent to 750 currency points). These fees were to be remitted to the NCHE via the URA web portal, as stipulated by Section 3(2) (b) of the registration protocol.
In light of this achievement, Professor Mary J. N. Okwakol, the Executive Director of National Council for Higher Education, extended warm congratulations to MIU, acknowledging the significance of this accomplishment.
“Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you upon this achievement.” she said.
