Khartoum: Money worth at least USD10,000,000  has been  found stashed in ousted former Sudan president Omar El-Bashir’s  house in crib. The money, which wash stashed in 100 and 50 dollar bills, was found hidden   in suitcases  in Bashir’s State House in Khartoum. According to a video that has since gone viral on YouTube and other social media platforms, Sudanese officials are seen removing the   stashes of dollar bills from suitcases as they count the money,  which is stacked in bundles.

The discovery of the money has shocked millions of Sudanese, mainly because   most of them protested because of abject poverty,  high costs of living, inflation and drastic economic  conditions in Sudan.

Meanwhile,  we have since learnt that  Bashir is under house arrest in Khartoum, contrary  to earlier  reports that he had been arrested and detained at Kober Maximum prison in Sudan. Lieutenant-General Mohamed Hamdan Daqlo, the commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSP) , has revealed Friday that “Al-Bashir has not left the country, but is under house arrest.”Last Thursday the Sudanese military ousted al-Bashir, who had ruled Sudan since 1989, after  four months of popular protests against his rule. The military also established a military council to run the country for a transitional period of two years, although this has since sparked off more protests from Sudanese, who advocate for civilian rule. Asked about al-Bashir’s trial before the International Criminal Court (ICC), Daqlo said “The decision was up to the Sudanese people”. “Sudan is about to form a new elected government, which will decide the shape of the next stage and will try every criminal who has committed any crime against the Sudanese people, including al-Bashir himself,” he said.

The ICC has issued two arrest warrants for al-Bashir on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in connection with the conflict in the western province of Darfur.
