Kampala: The European Union(EU) Delegation in Uganda, in collaboration with Belgium has pledged EUR 50 million to support skills development and job creation initiatives in Uganda.
This promising commitment was confirmed by the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, during a meeting with His Excellency Jan Sadek, the Head of the EU Delegation to Uganda who was accompanied by Mr Nicolas Gonze.
The discussions during the meeting involved various topics, including the imperative of enhancing active youth engagement in socioeconomic development endeavors and addressing the pressing issue of youth unemployment.
Minister Balaam underscored the significance of listening to the needs and aspirations of young people to enable them to lead fulfilling lives.
”Together with Belgium, they have committed EUR 50 Million to support skilling and job creation. We further discussed issues of active youth participation in social economic development activities, environmental protection, peaceful conflict resolution, tolerance and further agreed to work together in taking time to listen to the the views and needs of the young people so that they can be able to lead decent and enjoyable lives” he confirmed.
He expressed appreciation for the support extended to Ugandan youth through initiatives such as the Spotlight project, Opportunities Are Here, and Erasmus+.
”During the meeting I applauded their support to the young people of Uganda through a number of projects such as the Spotlight which is in its second phase, Opportunities Are Here and Erasmus+” he added.
Further more, Minister Balaam reiterated his commitment to enhancing the social, economic, and health outcomes for Ugandan youth and children, a pledge that is already yielding tangible results since assuming office as Minister earlier last month.
