Minister of Lands and Urban Development Judith Nalule Nabakooba has officiated the commissioning of a new school block at Ajoba Primary School In Serere District.

Nabakooba at the commissioning said the development articulates the NRM’s agenda of enrolling more pupils in school saying that through UPE, enrolment rose from a mere 2 million to 7 million pupils.

Nabakooba thanked and congratulated Hon Andoa for leading the process that put in place the classroom block. “Now that we have reopened, we need to continue to observe SOPS,” Nabakooba said, adding that the new classroom blocks are great, but the most important thing she said is to ensure that “learning is taking place inside these walls”

According to Nabakooba, government can only achieve the NRM manifesto and the NDP through education.

For a couple of years now, Government has heavily invested in the education sector as a means of increasing literacy rates.

But despite the above, the education sector in Uganda is constrained by many challenges. These include a high level of teacher and student absenteeism, weak school level management structures, inadequate availability of learning materials, and large class sizes.
