The leader of People Power movement Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine, who is also the Kyadondo East Constituency legislator, seems to be reaping from the police brutality because some members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) have started sympathising with him, while others are defecting from NRM to join him.
Although it is currently very difficult for him to hold consultation meetings prior to contesting for presidency in the 2021 elections, Bobi Wine’s People Power movement is becoming popular day by day, and recently a NRM diehard who is also the woman Member of Parliament for Nakaseke district Hon Sarah Najjuma, is said to have joined the People Power movement.
According to a reliable source ,Najjuma has been severally seen with Salim Serunkuma, who is a People Power candidate for the Kawempe North constituency, campaigning for him ahead of the coming elections.
“It has been very easy for Serunkuma to persuade Najjuma to join the people power movement because he is her boyfriend and they live together in Wakiso district. They are usually seen moving together in his car as they garner support for him,” the source said.
It should however be noted that apart from Serunkuma, there are other candidates eyeing the Kawempe North MP seat, among them Sulaiman Kidandala.
However, Kidandala goes around claiming that Najjuma is bankrolling Serunkuma’s political ambitions and has dared her to come out publicly and tell Ugandans that she has since defected from NRM to People Power.
Besides that, Najjuma has not yet shown interest in contesting again for the Nakaseke district woman MP seat in 2021.
But there are already several candidates ready to oust her, among them being Esther Nakawooya, a People Power candidate, who says that they have always been getting rumours that the area legislator joined People Power and didn’t believe it until they saw her in the Serunkuma’s car donning a red beret.
However, People in Nakaseke district in areas of Kinyogoga, Ngoma and others have vowed not to vote Najjuma as their woman MP come 2021, because since she is always seen with People Power coordinators yet she joined parliament on NRM ticket. They are also blaming her for allegedly using NRM money to fund People Power activities .
However, efforts by this reporter to seek a comment from Najjuma on whether she joined People Power or not were futile because she refused to her phone.
