Member of Parliament for Makindye West Allan Ssewanyana aka bwiino was Monday arrested by police  and whisked away to Naggalama Police station where he is being detained for allegedly inciting violence and convening unlawful assembly at the Kiruddu Hospital entrance.

Mr Ssewanyana arrived at the hospital armed with a chain to close the hospital gate because of management’s failure to construct a better sewage management system. He was, however, stopped by police officers who later arrested him.

He had earlier told journalists that he had information government released Shs3 billion for a sewage lagoon but no work  was being done to stop the flowing of sewage into the neighboring communities.

The hospital director, Dr Charles Kabugo declined to comment on the issue saying he was attending a meeting.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the lawmaker’s arrest saying he was arrested over unlawful assembly and inciting violence.

“Yes, he has been arrested and we are taking him to Nagalama Police station for safe custody. Honourable entered hospital and forcefully closed the hospital where hundreds of patients are receiving treatment. He wanted to deny the patients vital treatment they need most, if he has any problem with the hospital administrators, there are channels he has to follow but not to close the hospital. This shows his goal is just to score his political points but he does not care about the sick. He is charged with inciting violence and unlawful assembly,” Onyango said.

While speaking after his arrest on a police van,Hon Ssewanyana said that he will not keep quiet until Mulago hospital which handles Kiruddu hospital issues  of sanitation.
