Members of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi of Kyadondo East, Mathias Mpuuga of Masaka Municipality and Nathan Mandala Mafabi of Budadiri County West, have rejected the Shs20m that was dished out to MPs by Parliament to purportedly help them fight Coronavirus in their constituencies.

Parliament last week passed a resolution to facilitate all MPs with Shs20m, to help them sensitise masses in their respective constituencies about COVID-19, although the money sparked off national outrage, with many Ugandans accusing the MPs of being very selfish and heartless.

However, several MPs, especially those from the opposition, have since rejected the money and returned it to  the Parliamentary Commission, which disbursed it onto their accounts, even after the High Court had issued an injunction barring the same.

While returning the money which had been deposited into his account in ABSA bank,  People Power MP Kyagulanyi, who is also a presidential contender for the 2021 general election, categorically stated that he was ‘Returning A Bribe To Parliament’.

According to Bobi Wine’s tweet, he blamed Parliament for allocating itself Shs10b and yet very many Ugandans have lost jobs.

“While millions of Ugandans starved and countless lost jobs, the Parliament of Uganda allocated itself Shs10b ($2.7m)  and gave each member Shs20m! Not even a court order or public outcry could stop them,” he said.

Bobi Wine has condemned this move and further returned the money to parliament.

“Wrong & immoral! I’ve returned this money & will not partake in a fraud so vile,” he tweeted shortly after returning the money.

Earlier this week, the Parliament commission informed all the members of Parliament who wish to return the money that it shall not receive the money in cash but it should be transferred to its bank account.

On his part, Nandala Mafabi added Shs10M onto the Shs20m from Parliament and donated a total of Shs30m to Buwalasi Health Centre in his constituency, such that it can help in servicing the medical facility’s ambulance, which has been grounded for several years after government refused to service it.
