Kampala: Members of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and Francis Zaaake Butebi have been arrested this afternoon in Busabala, as they headed to One Love Beach for the Engule Mu Kyarenga’ concert.
Bobi Wine, the Kyadondo East MP, was slated to stage his ‘Engule Mu Kyarenga’ concert today Easter Monday, but it was blocked by the police, who said the organisers of the concert failed to adhere to safety guidelines given to them. However,  this morning one of the concert organisers Abbey Musinguzi of Abtex Promotions insisted that the concert would be held as planned, despite the police having impounded some of their music equipment.  Bobi Wine also insisted that he would perform at One Love Beach Busabala despite the police blockade. However, when he drove to Busabala this morning with Zaake, their vehicle was intercepted by the police a few kilometers to the beach.
There ensued a brief scuffle as the  police tried to force Bobi Wine out of the vehicle, a Land Cruiser Prado, but he refused. The police thereafter towed the vehicle for a few meters, before they stopped and started smashing its windows to get the two legislators out. One policeman was filmed smashing the car windows with a metallic bar and when it failed, he tried hitting it with a pistol butt which also failed. He was then given a baton by a colleague, which he used to smash the car window. Thereafter Bobi Wine and Zaake were brutally dragged out of the vehicle, before being bundled into a waiting police mobile jail and being whisked away to an unknown destination. Promoters Abtex and Bajjo Events were also arrested. We shall keep you posted about this story but by the time we went to press, the police had not yet issued a statement about the incident.
