Authorities in Bunyangabu District have launched an investigation into the gruesome murder of Tumukunde Geoffrey, a 35-year-old peasant, who was found dead in a pool of blood on Thursday morning.

Tumukunde, a resident of Kakooga Cell, Kakooga Ward in Kakinga Town Council, was discovered with deep head wounds in an open area at approximately 7:30 AM on March 19, according to the Local Council 1 (LC1) chairperson, Mr. Ngabirano Anatoli.
Preliminary police findings suggest that Tumukunde was killed during the night. In an effort to track down the perpetrators, a police sniffer dog was deployed, leading to the arrest of two suspects, including the deceased’s wife. The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with investigations.

Bunyangabu District Police Commander (DPC), SSP Ndahula David, confirmed the incident, condemning the rising cases of violent crime in the area. “It is unfortunate that some people lose their lives in such brutal ways. The police are committed to ensuring that those responsible face the full force of the law,” he stated.

The deceased’s body was transported to Buhinga Hospital for a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigations.
Bunyangabu District has recently experienced a surge in violent crimes, often linked to domestic disputes, land conflicts, and economic hardships. Many residents in the region rely on agriculture for their livelihood, and tensions over resources frequently escalate into violence.
In rural areas like Kakooga Cell, where Tumukunde lived, tightly knit communities often feel the immediate impact of crime. Law enforcement agencies, including the Uganda Police Force, have been working to enhance community policing efforts to curb crime and improve response times to incidents.
The murder of Tumukunde underscores the ongoing security challenges in the district. Police have increasingly turned to forensic evidence, community intelligence, and tracking dogs to solve cases. The arrest of the victim’s wife as a suspect raises concerns about domestic violence, which remains a growing issue in many Ugandan households.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help prevent further violent incidents in the district.
