Museveni Appoints His Former SFC Commander Maj. Nabaasa To Head Military Police Amidst Rising Terror Acts

President Museveni appoints former SFC Commander Maj. Gen. Don Nabaasa head Military Police.

Gen Yoweri Museveni who is also the Commander in Chief (CIC) of armed forces in the Republic of Uganda has today been appointed the former commander of the elite Special Forces Command boss head of Military Police.

Don replaces Brig. Keith Katungi who has been transferred to Somalia to serve as the UPDF contingent commander in December the deployment his predecessor is currently undertaking in the same country. Maj. Gen. Don Nabaasa will also first finish his tour of duty in December taking on his new office back home.

The appointment of the battle-hardened officer Nabaasa comes in wake of bomb attacks currently rocking the central region in Uganda where a terrorist group Islamic State took the responsibility for the explosion on Monday morning.

A bomb explosion on Saturday night killed one person and injured several others at a bar in Komamboga, in the outskirts of Kampala city, and a day after, another explosion claimed the life of one passenger and injured several in a Swift Bus which had reached Mpigi township heading to Western Uganda.

WHO? is Brig Katungi:

  1. He commanded several UPDF Units in Karamoja during the disarmament exercise and Rwenzori during the war against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
  2. He was later sent among the first military units to set up camp in Somalia to fight Al Shabaab.
  3. Based in Mogadishu, Katungi commanded military operations that routed Islamist fighters, leading to the capture of the city.
  4. Katungi later commanded the United Nations Guard Unit in Somalia, providing security to expatriates in secured zones and the Aden Adde International Airport.
  5. From Somalia, Katungi was sent to Rwenzori area again where he commanded the 309 Brigade in Kasese district.
  6. He was deployed in Rwenzori at a time ADF militants’ activities were gaining momentum in Eastern DRC. At the time, the ADF were attacking UN military bases and even killing peacekeepers.
