Museveni Appoints Maj.Gen Okidi New Deputy Commander Airforce, Col Rugumayo Deputy CMI Boss

HE.Yoweri Kaguta Museveni dubbed Commander in Chief (CiC) of armed forces has this evening announced new appointments in his struggle to keep the country’s security tight.

Maj Gen Charles Okidi has been appointed Deputy Commander of Airforce, Brig Gen David Gonyi is the new Chief of Staff Airforce and Col Abdul Rugumayo is the Deputy CMI boss.

Major General Charles Okidi, a senior Ugandan military officer, has been the Chief of Staff of the UPDF Air Force, effective 11 December 2019. Before that, he was the Director Operations at the UPDF Air Force Headquarters at Entebbe.

Rugumayo has been serving as Deputy General Manager Luwero industries. He replaces Brigadier CK Asiimwe who was recently sent on training in a shake-up of the military intelligence services over the Uganda-Rwanda conflict.

Rugumayo previously served as intelligence chief for Uganda’s military operation against the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in northern Uganda. At the time, Rugumayo was stationed at Gulu-based UPDF 4th Division.

Rugumayo will now deputise Maj Gen James Birungi who recently took over from Maj Gen Abel Kandiho.

Brig Gen David Gonyi who has taken over as Chief of Staff Airforce previously served on the UPDF military court martial.
