MUST Student Murdered, Body Dumped In Swamp

Mbarara: Police in Mbarara are hunting for yet to be identified goons who murdered a student of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), before dumping his body in Katete zone, Mbarara municipality.

Brian Akampire, who was a second year student of medicine, was found lying dead near River Rwizi on Friday morning by locals in the area.

It is said that after his lectures on Thursday evening Kampiire went to church where he was last seen playing keyboard, after which continued  to visit a relative who stays in Katete, a Mbarara Municipality suburb.

It is however alleged that on his way back to the University Akampire was attacked by unknown goons who waylaid along the banks of River Rwizi and clobbered him to death.

The goons later robbed him of all hi belongings before dumping the body in a swamp, from where it was recovered on Friday morning.

The body was recovered by Kateete residents  who alerted the police that later took it to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary.

The Rwiizi region spokesperson Samson Kasasira said that “Investigations are on going and the police must arrest killers.”

Brian Akampire was born in Kibirizi Cell, Kanyinya  to Mr. and Mrs. Paulo Twinomwe who is a primary school teacher.

He attended Nyakibale Lower Primary School, St Paul’s Seminary and Buddo SS.

Members Corpus Christus Chaplaincy, where he was member the Charismatic and an organist in the Choir, said they are deeply saddened and will greatly miss him.

He was also a very active member of St. Paul’s Old Boys Association(SPOBA) and Kigezi MUST Students’ Association (KIMBUSA).
