Kampala: The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) yesterday hosted key stakeholders to a luncheon in celebration of collective efforts by all Anti-Corruption Agencies in the war to eliminate corruption.
In attendance was the Chief Guest, Chief Justice Alphonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, Rt. Hon Prime Minister-Madam Robinah Nabanjja, Attorney General-Kiryowa Kiwanuka, DPP-Hon. Justice Jane F. Abodo & The Inspector General of Gov’t-Betty Kamya among other senior government and private sectors officials.

In her opening remarks, the Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Col. Edith Nakalema informed the guests that yesterday marked the beginning of the Anti-Corruption week culminating with the International Anti-Corruption Day to be commemorated on 9th December 2021.
She thanked the Prime Minister who had earlier in the morning led the SH-ACU team to a work out session popularly known as Zumba.
“Rt Hon. PM, permit me to extend our sincere gratitude and deep appreciation for leading us through the physical fitness exercise which has prepared us better for the numerous activities ahead. We believe that a healthy body builds a healthy mind, which in turn breeds an ethical spirit,” she said.
Addressing the Chief guest, Col. Nakalema also thanked all Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies, Heads of Statutory bodies and technical persons in MDAS for the support and guidance they have given the SH- ACU team.
She further outlined the notable achievements they have registered together as a team, namely, The Increased Public Trust as a result of the face-to-face interactive meetings otherwise known as Baraza, the joint Radio & TV talk shows to sensitize the public on the need to end corruption and the coordination amongst all the agencies in managing corruption cases.
In his key note address, Chief Justice Alphonse Chigamoy Owiny – Dollo pledged to take justice closer to the people by ensuring they deploy a magistrate at each parish level in Uganda. He further thanked the president for approving the Judiciary plan.
About State House Anti Corruption Unit
SH-ACU was established under article 99(4) of the constitution of Uganda, which gives the President executive powers to either directly or indirectly perform his duties or through officers subordinate to him.
Therefore, the president launched SH-ACU on 10th December 2018 and tasked the unit to coordinate with all constitutionally mandated agencies to ensure that complaints raised by citizens are resolved.
SH- ACU also acts as a link between H.E. the President, citizens and Anti- Corruption agencies in relation to the Anti-Corruption issues.
