New Telecom Lyca Mobile Launches In Uganda

A new telecommunications company, LycaMobile, which is the world’s largest Mobile Virtual Network operator (MVNO), has Thursday January 16, 2020 launched its operations in Uganda,Spy Uganda reports.

The Company’s top managers and directors announced its launch at a press conference held at Sheraton hotel Thursday morning, and revealed that the development  expands Lycamobile’s operations to 24 countries worldwide so far and is head quartered in UK.

The company’s top dogs who addressed the Media during during the launch included Vinay Alapati (Lycamobile DirectorUganda), Michael Landau(Group’s Chief Finance Officer) and Prem Sivasamy (Group Deputy Chairman).

Others in attendance also were Gavin De Costa, Head of Trade Policy for Uganda and Rwanda at the British High Commission and Andrew Lwanga Auk, from the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.

They noted that Uganda is one of the biggest destinations for Telecom markets in Africa, characterized by  discerning high utility consumers, reason why the company decided to join the Ugandan market.

Meanwhile,we have also learnt that president Museveni will this evening be the Chief guest at the company’s Dinner at Sheraton Hotel where he will officially launch its operations.

Lycamobile has established countrywide infrastructure, meaning that  Ugandans all over the country will be able to connect with friends and loved ones through Lycamobile’s high-quality but at low cost for voice and data services.

Allirajah Subaskaran, Lyca Group Founder and Chairman said “This is a historical milestone for the Group and  we are delighted to be embarking on the role out of services to the Ugandan market.

As the world’s MVNO, with a sustained focus on Africa, it’s natural to move Lycamobile to venture into Uganda.”

He added that “We are currently operating in South Africa and considered Uganda in the East African region because of the market potential and ease of doing business. Now that we are here, we look forward to helping connect increasing numbers of Ugandans both nationally and internationally.”

Since being established in 2006, Lyca mobile has grown quickly to serve over 15 million customers including Europe, the USA, Australia and Asia.

Following the recent launches, this latest advance further supports the company’s ambition to connect friends from all over the world.
