Kampala: Kampala City Trader’s Association (KACITA), the umbrella body for Kampala city traders is set to cough over UGX215 million to Crane Management Services Ltd (CMS) as a compensation for legal costs incurred in the case filed against city landlords challenging rent payment for three months of the 2020 lockdown.

KACITA had sought from court a declaration that their members are not liable to pay utility bills for the premises they occupy on the landlords’ buildings for the period during the lockdown thus requesting court to issue an order prohibiting the landlords from evicting their tenants on account of failure to pay the rent.
KACITA sued a couple of arcade owners among them including; Crane Management Services, Ntake Bakery Ltd, Apple Properties, Godfrey Kyeswa, Aponye House Limited, James Mugabi, Drake Lubega, Ham Kiggundu, Matovu Younger, Christine Nabukeera, Daudi Mutebi, Joseph Yebaza, Haji Muhammed Zziwa and Tom Kitandwe.
However, later the case was dismissed on grounds that it didn’t disclose any course of action against landlords.
In the due course, KACITA described its self as a company incorporated in accordance with the laws of Uganda and as a company limited whose main objective is” bringing together members of the business community in social development” something that seemingly will not save them from coughing millions to CMS.
